AsianHardwareOrientedSecurityandTrustSymposium(AsianHOST)isanannualsymposiumwhichaimstofacilitatetherapidgrowthofhardware-basedsecurityresearchanddevelopment.AnothergoalofthisconferenceistohelpbuildhardwaresecuritycommunityinAsianandPacificarea.

Hardwarehaslongbeenviewedasatrustedpartysupportingthewholecomputersystemandisoftentreatedasanabstractlayerrunninginstructionspassedthroughthesoftwarelayer.Historically,cybersecuritycommunitybelievedthattheintegratedcircuit(IC)supplychainiswellprotected.However,theICsupplychain,whichisnowspreadaroundtheglobe,hasbecomemorevulnerabletoattacksthanbefore.Theheavyrelianceonthird-partyresources/servicesbreedssecurityconcernsandinvalidatestheillusionthatattackerscannoteasilyaccesstheisolatedICsupplychain.Formalmethodshavebeenproventobeeffectiveinsecurityverificationonhardwarecode.Trustworthyhardwareisalsounderdevelopmentfortheconstructionoftheroot-of-trust.Theintrinsicpropertiesofexistingandemergingdevices,MOSFET,memristor,spintronics,etc.areleveragedforsecurityprimitivesandapplications.Anothertrendinthehardwaresecurityareaisthedevelopmentofsecurityenhancedhardwareinfrastructureforsystemlevelprotection.Thegoalistoprovideafullyoperationalsoftwareandhardwareplatformthatensuressecuredesign,manufacturing,anddeploymentofmoderncomputersystems.
